Moving to another country can be challenging. North East will work with successful
players to make their transition to Adelaide as straightforward as possible.
The support offered will depend on the player, their playing level, their needs and the
club’s available resources.
Registration and uniform
For agreed international recruits, North East will provide:
- Club registration
- Playing fees
- A full playing uniform
- Selected club merchandise
There are no match payments.
Accommodation
The club will help players look for suitable accommodation before arriving in Adelaide.
Short-term rental accommodation can be difficult to secure, so we generally try to arrange a room-and-board or shared-house arrangement through people connected with the club.
Players should expect accommodation to cost approximately AUD $250–$300 per week, plus a contribution towards utilities.
Availability, location and final costs cannot be guaranteed and will be confirmed before the player travels.
Employment
North East can provide local introductions and support players as they begin their employment search.
Previous players have found work in areas such as:
- Gyms and fitness businesses
- Cafés and hospitality
- Retail
- Local businesses
- Hockey umpiring
Umpiring may provide an opportunity to earn additional income during the hockey season.
Players remain responsible for finding and maintaining employment. The club cannot guarantee a job, particular working hours or a level of income.
Flights
Depending on the player’s playing ability and the club’s available resources, some assistance with flights may be considered.
Any assistance will be discussed and agreed before travel commitments are made.
Transport
The club may be able to help a player access a vehicle, subject to availability and an
agreed arrangement.
Where vehicle access is provided, the player will generally be responsible for fuel,
running and servicing costs.
Arrival support
A club representative will help successful recruits settle into Adelaide. This may include:
- Airport pickup
- Transport to accommodation
- Setting up a mobile phone
- Opening a bank account
- Food shopping
- Learning their way around Adelaide
- Introductions to teammates and club members
