Both the Zone and Under 13 Championships are an integral part of our state selection processes. For an athlete to be eligible for U13 / U15 / U18 state team selection trials, he/she must nominate to play in the Zone/U13 Championships. Nomination forms are available for download here

Hockey SA may approve non participation in the Zone/U13 Championships on the grounds of: unavailability due to medical reason/injury; non selection due to team strength; or personal extenuating circumstances at HSA’s discretion. Exemption forms are available for download here

Please contact Jamie Bahnisch (HSA Athlete and Coach Development Manager) prior to the Zone/U13 Championships if an exemption is required by you as players nominating for state teams will be asked to indicate: Did you nominate for zones? If not, why not?; and Did you participate in zone championships? If not, why not?

This process highlights the importance of Zone/U13 Championships not only for participation and playing within a zonal region at a higher level competition than regular club fixtures; but also it is a crucial component in state team selection where it allows another opportunity for an athlete to be seen playing outside of a trial environment. It also means that Zone/U13 Championships are not disregarded and remain an important event for developing players.
